2024 OACETT Conference & Awards Gala: Innovating for a Greener Future

Do you have a background or interest in green technology or environmental engineering technology? Then, you need to join like-minded professionals and leaders from industry for the Innovating for a Greener Future Conference taking place on June 7 - 9 at the Sheraton Toronto Airport and Conference Centre.

This three-day conference, put on by the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT), is an annual event that includes a mixture of meetings, networking sessions, professional development sessions, keynote speakers and panel discussions.

Friday, June 7

6:30 PM: Hospitality & Welcome Night Dinner at the Woodbine Racetrack

This event is perfect for attendees looking to bring their colleagues, spouses, or family members or to come out for an evening of networking and fun at the Woodbine Racetrack Clubhouse.

This event includes a delicious buffet-style meal and drinks catered by Peter & Paul's and features interactive entertainment stations, a live band and DJ, and plenty of networking. The ticket includes all food and two drink tickets to be put towards beverages of your choice. Individuals will have the opportunity to arrive at the event space before the start of the event to watch some of the horse racing. Buses will run from the hotel to the event space; attendees can also drive or take a taxi/uber to this space.

Saturday, June 8

9:00 AM: Opening Remarks & Keynote Speaker - Energy, Who Cares? – Bob McDonald

Canadians consume more energy per person than almost every other country. We live in a land rich in resources but supplies are dwindling and demand is rising. Climate change is forcing a re-thinking of our energy use, what are the realistic alternatives to a clean energy future?

10:45 AM: Panel Session - Eco Solutions

Join industry and college representatives for an informative panel discussion on eco-solutions and green technologies from leading industry experts. Learn about new and existing technologies, how they are being implemented and what we can expect to see in the future.

1:15 PM: Professional Development - Green Tech

Topic: The Future of Energy Storage - The Role of Nanotechnology and Emerging Technologies

Speaker: Shahram Karimi, Ph.D., MBA, P.Eng., Lambton College, Professor & NSERC Industrial Research Chair for Colleges (IRCC), Research & Innovation

2:30 PM: Technology Partnership Showcase

6:30 PM: Cocktail Reception

Enjoy a fun-filled hour of networking, drinks, canapes, and entertainment while dressed to impress. The dress code for the cocktail reception is formal attire.

7:30 PM: President’s Awards Dinner

Sandy Jobin-Bevans, an alum of Second City, will host OACETT's Presidents Awards Dinner, celebrating President Micheal Mooney, C.E.T. and the 2024 recipients of the Fellow OACETT designation, and the 12 individuals receiving OACETT awards.

10:00 PM: Hospitality Reception

Cap of a celebratory evening with the hospitality reception, which includes light snacks and drinks.

Sunday, June 9

10:00 AM: Professional Development - Anaerobic Digestion Fundamentals with Azura Associates

Join professionals from Azura Associates for this intriguing professional development highlighting the fundamentals of anaerobic digestion.
