About this event

Every Sunday, we invite children 18 months -10yrs to create art in Travers Park. We bring the materials, and your child will use imagination and creativity while having loads of fun together with other little artists. When you arrive, look for our colorful table at the entrance of the park.

All sessions have a 'Special Event' approval permit from the Department of Parks and Recreation, NYC and a $25 event fee has been paid to secure a location for the sessions at Travers Park, Jackson Heights.

Every week, we provide different art activities, so it is a perfect opportunity for your young child to develop art skills and enjoyment from creating their own art.

Each one-hour class will include:

Free form art project - Any use of materials
Craft activity - Make and create a craft
Skills project - devloping art skills appropriate to the age of the child

Children will take home 2-3 pieces of artwork per class.

Space is limited at each Sunday class, so please register early to save a spot for your child.

Weather policy: If there is rain forecast between 9am-11am on Sunday, we will email you by 8am and the class will be moved to the next Sunday.

What if it rains on Sunday morning?

In the event there is rain on Sunday morning, the event will be re-scheduled and a make up class will be offered. You will receive a text message by 8am if cancellation is necessary due to weather.

What do I need to bring?

We provide everything for your child to create art. We also provide art smocks to protect your child's clothing.

What ages do you accept?

Children 18 months - 10yrs are welcome to join in the fun at Art in the Park.

Shaz Lawrence is an experienced teacher trainer and consultant. She has a Bachelor of Education, (University of Adelaide, Australia) Masters in Linguistics (University of Adelaide, Australia) and Montessori Certificate (Australian Center of Montessori Studies) and Language degrees from Beijing University, Nanjing University (China) and National Taiwan Normal University (Taiwan). She is also an artist who has had her artwork featured at a number of gallery art shows in San Francisco. Her artwork is also featured at Saatchi online website and is the founder of 'Art in the Park' - fun art sessions for kids in Queens, New York City.

She currently provides training and is a consultant to schools in the US, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, China, Australia and Hong Kong. She has been a speaker at Chinese teacher conferences in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Shanghai, Adelaide, San Francisco, New York, Dublin, and Malaysia.

Webinars and in-person workshops/conferences provided by Shaz are innovative and focus on the use of PBL and Inquiry-based learning to engage students in the language learning process. She also has experience and advanced skills in technology and has been a Technology trainer and Tech. Coordinator for many years.
