About this event

Rationale:

More and more we are seeing our industry and our construction associations challenge themselves to attract an ever growing diversity of talent, to retain that talent through more inclusive workplace practises and ensure that the sector remains accessible to individuals who might at first glance think that “construction” is only for a certain kind of person.

A recent editorial from the Ottawa Construction Association itself stated “Now more than ever, the solution to the industry’s workforce challenges has to come from diversification. It has talked for years about the need to recruit more workers including women, newcomers and indigenous peoples – it now has to act on those words. The challenge is that new thinking and new ways of behaving are needed. It is past the point where employers can hope the same-old approach will get them through to the future.”

In response to that challenge, it is key that ACCE include in our professional development a session that we hope will provide a baseline of skill and knowledge in regard to this issue in our classrooms.
