Calgary Public Library and Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame have partnered to present "Caretakers of the Land - Celebrating Indigenous Sports Heroes." Learn about Tom Longboat's remarkable story from his great-great-great-niece, Cindy Martin. Through this presentation, students will explore the story of an inspiring role model, delving into his legacy and impact on Canada’s sporting heritage.

Cindy Lynn Martin, a proud descendant of the esteemed Order of Sport Recipient & Hall of Famer, Tom Longboat, carries forth the legacy with grace. Embracing her Haudenosaunee heritage, Cindy is a member of the Turtle clan within the Cayuga Nation. Her advocacy for peace, strength, and a good mind echoes through her engaging presentations, igniting inspiration within her audience. With a profound mission, Cindy endeavors to empower Indigenous girls and women, fostering a culture of self-worth, positive choices, and mindful decision-making for a healthier, brighter future.
