Communitech Data Hub Workshops: IoT Workshop Series

Curious what the Internet of Things (IoT) is all about? Join us for an introduction to IoT systems and applications, learn how to build and enhance IoT applications, discover how to safeguard yourself against IoT and server attacks, and more. 

The impact of IoT applications is estimated to be $11 trillion – but only if we can secure it. This creates opportunities for companies that can forecast or generate near real-time business insights for those connected devices, but also presents a challenge to secure data across a web of embedded devices.

Workshops will be in an open session format on Zoom from 2 – 3 p.m. ET:

• June 2, 2021 – Introduction to IoT with Gurminder Kandola
• June 16, 2021 – Real-time IoT Analytics with Avi Bhargava and Riyad Parvez

You can also take part in demonstrations on microcontrollers such as the ESP32, Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ or Compute Module 4. Plus, try out the commercial grade 5G testbed at the Communitech Data Hub after the session. There’s limited availability, so sign up early!

Gurminder Kandola is the former CTO of Diply, Audiobooks.com, FanXchange and Viafoura where he gained a deep understanding of how to effectively merge internal governance and security with real-time data applications to create the ultimate end-user experience. By capturing customers with strategic content marketing, real-time insights and predictive technology, his clients are able to consistently stimulate growth and ROI, while delivering an experience as unique as its user.

Avi Bhargava is the CTO at Ukko Agro, an agriculture technology startup. He has 12+ years of collective experience in designing business and technology strategies, leading complex technology solution implementations and managing scaling-up operations. Prior to Ukko Agro, Avi was a technology strategy and implementation consultant with PwC and Deloitte. His engagements have exposed him to business and technical environments within agriculture, healthcare, banking, insurance, utilities, high-tech and many public sector divisions.

Riyad Parvez is a Senior Software Engineer at Ukko Agro where he works on data infrastructure, analytics and machine learning for IoT devices. His interests include sustainability and biodiversity of wildlife conservation. Riyad has a Masters in Applied Science from the University of Waterloo.
