About this event

More Details:

All conversations have been created in partnership with local community organizations to consider the specific circumstances of Langley, the young people, and families in need of support who live there.

For families, the conversations are designed to include all families with children and youth with disabilities or other support needs that want to express their ideas.

What we hear from these conversations will be reported back to the community of Langley in a written report and a virtual session.

Following the virtual session for Langley, there will be another conversation with the broader community to think about ways to build better networks and involve all community partners that need to join this conversation, like schools and school districts, child care centres, community centres, health authorities, recreational organizations, etc.

The results from all the conversations will also inform a report to the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) with the expectation that all this will inform the future of services for children and youth with support needs (CYSN) in British Columbia.

In Langley this will take place between May 2024 and November 2024, though in addition to this project, there are several other engagement initiatives taking place across British Columbia. The Provincial government has invited families, service providers, advocates, experts, people with lived experience, and Indigenous Peoples to participate in one or more of these engagement processes.

In each conversation, participants are invited to share their ideas about:

· What services and supports for children and youth with support needs are working well in Langley?

· What gaps in services and support exist?

· What does a better network of services and supports look like in Langley?

There Will Be:

· Space and support for dialogue

· Elder involvement

· Food will be provided

· Support for transportation available

· Child care support available

Since 1959, the Langley Association for Community Living has been providing supports and services to children with special needs and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder. We endeavor to provide a comprehensive range of services that enhance quality of life.

Since 1975, the Langley Children’s Society, know as the Langley Child Development Centre, has been working in partnership with families and community to support Langley’s children and youth with developmental or special needs as they develop their individual potential. For the people we support, we can be the difference.

The Langley Association for Community Living and the Langley Child Development Centre merged our services in April of 2017. Collectively we bring over 100 years of dedicated services to the citizens of Langley. Together we are taking steps to meet the future needs of children youth, adults and their families as our community grows. We are proud to reintroduce ourselves as the Inclusion Langley Society and reaffirm our commitment to serve Langley for the next 100 years.
