Supply List

You can bring as many or as few of the following items as you'd like (at least 2-3 but any amount will be great!)*. Also feel free to bring other materials that aren’t listed here. This list is meant to give some ideas of playful materials.

  • Oil pastels, chalk pastels, conte, crayons, pencil crayons, watercolour pencil crayons, graphite sticks (regular/water soluble), markers.
  • Paints (watercolour, acrylics, tempera).
  • If you don't have paints (or even if you do!), look around your kitchen for things that can be used AS paint (frozen berries, spices, beet sugar, turmeric, cold coffee/tea, beets, carrot juice, parsley, pea pods...).
  • Embroidery thread and embroidery/tapestry needle (you can also use a lighter weight yarn, just make sure you have a needle with an "eye" that's large enough to thread whatever thread or yarn you're using).
  • Collage materials (magazines, books, coloured tissue paper...ALSO, forage around your home, in your recycle bin, junk drawers, photo collections... old tax documents, resumes, health records, notes to self, lists, love letters).
  • Thread scraps, lint, fuzz...
  • Nature objects (that you can smear onto your paper, glue/stitch on, or paint/draw with). Things like flower petals, leaves, grasses, twigs, moss.
  • Objects that can create holes or textures on your paper (hole punch, awl, pattern/seam roller...).
  • If you're planning to use collage materials you will want to also have scissors or a utility knife (ripping/tearing is also an option).
  • For anything that you're wanting to ATTACH to your paper (collage materials, nature objects) please have glue, tape and/or thread (and needle)... some sort of adhesive.
  • If you're planning on using pencil crayons or watercolour pencil crayons please also (try to) have a pencil sharpener.
  • If you're planning to work with paint, please also have a jar for water, paint brushes (or q-tip, sponge, tissue, palette knife, or your fingers!).

Do I need to be proficient in any specific artistic medium?

No! This session is not about technical skill or artistic proficiency. You may choose to bring only paper and crayons and that will be just great.
