2024 Event In Support Of...Newcomer Centre Rainbow Refuge Program
This is a 'pay what you can' event, with all proceeds donated directly to the Newcomer Centre's Rainbow Refuge program.
The Newcomer Centre (formerly called EMCN) supports immigrants and refugees to settle and thrive in our community. Their Rainbow Refuge program provides trauma-informed support to help LGBTQ+ individuals:
- Navigate immigration and legal processes
- Become aware of critical information and supports available for preparing refugee claims
- Prepare and submit documents properly
- Apply for legal aid
- Access culturally-competent, experienced therapists
- Receive guidance in preparation for their hearings, and attend hearings with staff from the Newcomer Centre
The Rainbow Refuge also provides support with finding safe housing, accessing health care, finding affirming spiritual communities, looking for gender-affirming employers, addressing homophobic incidents, and connecting clients in other areas of their lives.
