April 7, 14, 21, 28 | Links to the Land

Family Open Studio is back for another season of free family fun! For the month of April, we'll continue focusing on the ways artists make meaning out of their connection with the land. Inspired by How Can I Know You?, curated by Dr. Suzanne Morrissette, and Stockroom by Jeremy Laing, families will collaborate on projects that get them thinking about their impact on the Earth, and the Earth’s impact on them. How can materials tell stories about people and places? Where do art materials come from and where do they go when we’re finished using them? How can we honour the land that supports our lives? How do we show thanks to the people who protect the land?

May 5, 12, 19, 26, June 2, 9 | Sharing is Caring

As the exhibitions change, so does our theme! Once May is here, we'll be focusing on the beautiful act of sharing – sharing time, sharing tea, sharing art materials, and plenty of other ways to show we care. We’ll be reflecting on themes from our exhibitions – like the idea of “Leaving the Table” from Alize Zorlutuna’s work, which points to ways we can gather that show others we care. José Luis Torres has turned our Living Laboratory into a cabinet of curiosities for community members to activate with objects that hold special meaning. Jagdeep Raina will share folk tales mixed with personal stories in his work, and it’s our turn to share in the fun, every Sunday afternoon from 1-4pm.

Please be mindful of other families using the studio and keep your visit to about an hour if others are looking for space. Thank you!

This cart is full of artsy odds and ends that are free for the taking - but the only way we can keep it running is if our community contributes to the exchange! So if you have any art supplies at home that you're no longer using, please consider donating them to the Take and Make Cart - someone else will surely find a use for them!!
