About this event
- 2 hours
Felted Phenology is a felting workshop presented by CreativePEI as part of the City of Charlottetown’s ongoing Climate Action Plan consultation process. Led by facilitators Alexis Bulman and Mark Sandiford, this workshop invites participants to envision Charlottetown’s climate-resilient future by exploring potential shifts in city phenology.
Phenology studies seasonal events in nature and their relationship with weather and climate. As climate shifts, phenological patterns change, influencing our lives in an ongoing cycle of interconnectedness.
During Felted Phenology, participants will be asked to imagine and create felted depictions of the future phenological landscape and cityscape for Charlottetown they hope for. As participants add their creations to the larger tapestries, a picture will begin to form of a city where climate adaptation is imagined through a nature-first approach.
The workshop concludes with a post-it note activity, where participants will collectively identify action items inspired by the felted phenologies. For example, a felted bat could suggest a desire to grow the bat population in Charlottetown. This, in turn, might lead to actions such as reducing light pollution or suggesting changes in city bylaws to curb excessive outdoor lighting.
Not sure what phenology means? Don't worry, it'll all be explained at the workshop!
Please join us in crafting a climate-resilient future for Charlottetown, understanding that when nature flourishes, so do we!
