About the founder:

Nowshin Saiyara Mahmud is the founder of the HackHERfest, although she is only a grade 12 student in Brampton, Ontario. Her passion for reading, the arts, and learning has brought her to the world of technology.

She began her journey exploring various technological fields from graphic design to robotics. However, her time in a computer engineering class left her stunned at the distinct gap between men and women in the tech industry due to the sheer difference in the number of women and men taking tech courses in high school. She decided to take it upon herself to host the HackHERfest to introduce young women to the vast and ever-changing field of technology.
