Did you know that British Columbia's natural ecosystem is one of the most biologically diverse regions in Canada and is home to over half of the country's mammal and plant species? This diverse biodiversity contributes to ecological resilience, making BC a globally important region for conservation efforts.
Indigenous communities have stewarded these lands for millennia, maintaining a significant relationship with the natural world. Many Indigenous practices, such as sustainable resource management and knowledge of ecological environments, continue to shape conservation efforts and land-use planning in the province.
Join us at our next Science World Spotlights for a thought-provoking panel discussion in recognition of Indigenous People's Day in Canada. Inspired by our new feature gallery Earth Matters: Rethink the Future, this event aimed at an adult audience delves into the rich interrelations of Indigenous knowledge on environmental stewardship, sustainability and the interconnectedness of the natural world.
