About the Speaker - Anne Marie Shrouder

I have spent over 20 years in the field of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (DIBs): Almost 16 years as an international Speaker, Facilitator, and Consultant, and 5 years as an Elementary School Teacher and Master’s student in the Equity Department at OISE/University of Toronto. Today, I work with individuals within organizations to help them see more, to embrace inclusion, and to create cultures of learning so people can thrive. What has intrigued me most is the number of times I have heard people say, “I didn’t think of that!” and “Wow, I never knew that!” Also, how we all fear judgment, think it’s only us, and make up stories about other people that keep us apart. Even small opportunities to connect, ask questions, and talk have been so welcomed in my sessions – and we have all felt the energy in the room change. In the last few years, I have begun focusing more and more on racial equity. Understanding systemic racism – what it is, what it looks like, and what it means – is a foundational component of any DIBs commitment, because of the fundamental broad disparities caused by the belief in the concept of race, and the valuing of skin colour. Assisting in the creation of environments where people are aware and participate in dismantling individual and systemic barriers, and where they can learn, stretch, and can contribute fully, brings me joy. Walking with organizations on this journey is an honour. I have developed a Signature Methodology called The ABCs of Inclusion™ which overlays DIBs with community building to achieve this goal. When people are seen, heard and valued, representation increases and businesses thrive
