Explore the Wonders of Plants and Pollinators at Acadia University!
Join Terranut Club for an exciting field trip to Acadia University and the Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens, where you'll dive into the fascinating world of plants and the pollinators that depend on them.
Activities include:
- Plant Anatomy Exploration: Get hands-on with flower dissection and discover the intricate structures that allow plants to grow and thrive. Uncover the vital functions of petals, sepals, stamens, and pistils.
- Pollinator Syndromes: Learn how the color, shape, bloom time, and scent of flowers attract specific pollinators like bees, butterflies, birds, and bats. Explore the unique "pollination syndromes" that have evolved between plants and their pollinators.
- Save the Pollinators Garden Signs: design and draw a garden sign to bring home with a message about helping protect and conserve pollinators.
- Plant & Pollinator Scavenger Hunt: Put your newfound knowledge to the test as you venture into the Botanical Gardens on a self-guided scavenger hunt. Identify different plants, pollinators, and have a chance to observe these fascinating interactions in action.
Participants should come prepared with a lunch and snacks, good walking shoes, a backpack, and a raincoat.
