Exploring the District of Saanich's quick build separated bike lane progress.

The District of Saanich’s success in building a ‘quick build’ safe and separated active transportation infrastructure is a testament to their ability to implement speedy and effective measures to improve the safety of vulnerable road users.

‘Curb-plunking’ is a new phrase adopted by the Saanich council and refers to quickly building concrete curbs. The curbs are there to keep both people cycling and driving safe.

Join HUB Cycling and TransLink as we host Troy McKay, Senior Manager of Transportation and Development, District of Saanich for an overview of this quick build project, including how putting down barriers wherever there is a painted bike lane without parked cars aka ‘curb plunking’ has changed the Active Transportation landscape of the area.

Erin O’Melinn, former Executive Director of HUB Cycling and now Senior Manager of Transportation and Land Use Planning at TransLink, will also give an update on TransLink’s Bicycle Infrastructure Capital Cost (BICCS) funding and the potential of the quick-build stream.

Whether you are local government staff looking for examples of what's possible in your own region, a cycling advocate looking for inspiration or just curious about cycling advancements in other areas of BC, join us for this webinar!

Moderator: Helen Lui, Host of Urbanism Vancouver and seasoned housing and development professional
