Active listening is a valuable skill – both professionally and personally. Active listening requires us to be present, focused and concentrating fully. It challenges us to listen, with all our senses, to the facts and feelings shared with us; and to explore what may lie behind them. Listening more effectively – and having a true understanding of a situation or need – helps us to provide appropriate and effective support.
At the end of this course attendees will be able to:
- Explore what active listening looks like in practice.
- Develop your range of open questions to explore facts and feelings.
- React with empathy through your words and tone of voice.
- Ask effective clarifying questions to ensure shared understanding.
- End conversations effectively and sensitively.
