Pianist & composer Steve Koven wears many hats in the world of music and film. Since 1993, he has led the renowned Steve Koven Trio, earning them the title of ‘Canadian Cultural Ambassadors’ during their extensive global tours spanning over two decades. Beyond his trio performances, Steve captivates audiences with solo piano concerts across North America, Europe, and the Caribbean. His musical talents extend to composing, with numerous works licensed for film and television productions worldwide.


In the realm of education, Steve has been a fixture at Toronto’s York University since 2003, teaching Contemporary Improvisation and Jazz Piano Studies. He also shares his expertise at Centennial College in Toronto. With a Master's degree in Music Composition, Steve has led master classes and clinics not only across Canada but also in China, Japan, Colombia, Barbados, the Bahamas, USA, and Mexico. Furthermore, he fulfills the role of Education Coordinator for the Eleuthera International Jazz Festival in the Bahamas and has presented a TEDx Talk at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario.


As a multifaceted artist whose creative prowess extends seamlessly into the realm of filmmaking, Mr. Koven has firmly established his presence with a series of remarkable documentaries. Among his notable works are "20" and "Improvisation," both of which have earned widespread recognition and applause. His commitment to excellence in storytelling and visual expression has been duly acknowledged, notably with the honor of Best Short Documentary at the prestigious 2015 Toronto Independent Film Festival.


Continuing to push the boundaries of cinematic innovation, Koven's recent film "Now Hear This!" has garnered significant acclaim, solidifying his reputation as a visionary filmmaker. This captivating piece has not only captivated audiences but has also been honored with the esteemed title of Best Short Experimental Film at both the Toronto Indie and Short Film Festivals. Through his artistry and dedication, Koven continues to redefine the possibilities of storytelling on the silver screen, leaving an indelible mark on the world of cinema.
