Losing Life on Earth: How can we stop wildlife loss?
Event Information
Description
During our planet's 4.5-billion-year history, there have been five large species extinctions. Today in the Anthropocene (a new era shaped by humans) we are witnessing a sixth mass extinction. Globally, wildlife populations have declined by 58 per cent since 1970. The things driving this unprecedented decline - habitat loss, climate change, pollution, and human use - are due to human activities. It's up to us to turn things around.
Anchored by the results of WWF's Living Planet Report and Living Planet Report Canada, this evening presentation by Dr. Pete Ewins, lead specialist in species conservation at World Wildlife Fund Canada, will focus on what these findings mean for future generations and what we must do now to reverse the decline of wildlife, starting in our own Toronto neighbourhoods.
