We're delighted to kick off Asian Heritage Month with the Memory Tiles & Objects Handbuilding Clay Workshop led by Kendra Yee!
Clay is a medium meant for memories. In this workshop, we'll imprint stories into ceramic tiles or objects using airdry clay. Inspired by Kendra Yee's recent exhibition "Commonplace" at The Robert McLaughlin Gallery, join us to explore the power of storytelling in fostering common ground for seeing and taking care of one another. Choose a tale that resonates with you, and we'll bring these narratives to life on a 5" x 5" tile or through making an object. Participants will be guided through fundamental steps and learn techniques such as reliefs, etching, and hand-building.
Kendra Yee is an arts practitioner that seeks to materialize the truths and fictions of memory. Yee pulls tales from; personal stories, lived experience and collective narratives to develop site-specific installations that carve alternative archives. She has programmed and exhibited with: The Robert McLaughlin Gallery (Oshawa), Patel Brown (Toronto), Heavy Manners (Los Angeles), Juxtapoz (NYC), The Letter Bet (Montreal), Xpace Cultural Centre (Toronto) and is the first participant in the International Residency at the Glasgow Ceramic Studio (Summer 2024).
