About this event

  • 1 hour

From pjs to night caps, chemises to negligees, learn about the clothes we wear to bed and where the styles came from. Jennifer Triemstra-Johnston, costume designer and owner of Pick a Posie Vintage, will lead you through the history of the clothes we sleep in with fun fashion facts and examples from the Huron County Museum's collection. Join us at the Huron County Museum to see the fashion history of nightwear up close.

Jennifer will talk about the evolution of sleepwear in the musuem theatre, and then after a short break we will walk though the current exhibit Sleep In that highlights night clothing, as well as bedroom furniture from the collection. Find out why we wear what we wear to bed, and how nightwear materials and styles have changed and also moved into daywear styles!

The Huron County Museum is home to historical and cultural exhibitions, both temporary and permanent.   Thousands of artifacts illustrate the history of both our rural and urban communities in a variety of themes and topics. Gratefully, we continue to accept donations of historical items from members of the local and larger community allowing our collection to grow.

We endeavour to tell the stories of Huron County in a variety of methods on-site, off-site and on-line.
