About this event

During this one-week workshop, Odyssey's resident mask maker Clelia Scala will work with you as you design a theatre mask for a character of your choosing. Then she'll guide you through the entire creative process, including face casting, sculpting, mold-making, painting, and finishing the mask for performance.

As the week progresses, you'll receive insider tips and short hands-on practice in bringing your creation to life by Odyssey's Artistic Director Laurie Steven.

If you are looking to develop new skills and enjoy a creatively invigorating experience, you won't want to miss this workshop! No previous mask-making experience is required – just your imagination.

Organized by

A Theatre Like No Other!

Odyssey Theatre is renowned for signature masked performances that draw inspiration from Italian Commedia dell'Arte and a range of fairground theatrical arts. We conjure imaginative worlds and tell powerful stories that engage diverse audiences in a celebration of the human spirit. We create original work and bold adaptations of classics from the international repertoire that revel in social satire and journey into the world of myth and folklore. Through collaboration with artists from diverse theatrical and cultural traditions, we forge new directions in our creative work. The theatre is committed to supporting artists in our field and passionate about nurturing young artists.  We produce digital theatre performances, such as The Other Path podcast.

We are:

  • An award-winning theatre in our third decade;

  • Ottawa, Canada's premier professional summer theatre, presenting Theatre Under the Stars along the banks of the Rideau River in historic Strathcona Park;

  • A nexus for experimenting, creating, producing and training in physical forms of theatre including mask, Commedia dell'Arte, clown, bouffon, puppetry and dance-theatre;

  • Recipients of 25 awards and nominations; and,

  • A non-profit, registered charity.
