ON / OFF est une oeuvre chorégraphique qui s’adresse aux adolescents et aux adultes. Elle met en scène un quatuor de danseurs en action sur un dispositif étonnant, un tapis de course.

​

Sur cette scénographie inusitée à l’espace confiné, le mouvement est aussi contraint qu’exalté, enflammé et acrobatique. Tour à tour ou en groupe, le quatuor aborde des thèmes comme le dépassement de soi, l’identité, le vivre ensemble, la liberté, l’essoufflement et la multitude de sentiments et sensations qui rendent l’existence complexe. Cet environnement est un lieu de rencontre pour ces personnages qui cherchent à comprendre leur place dans le monde. Ils jouent avec le temps, suspendent l’action dans l’espace afin de creuser les détails d’un geste, d’un questionnement. Les danseurs sont tantôt à la merci, tantôt en maitrise de cette machine intrigante, imprévisible et mobilisatrice. La courroie qui s’empresse impitoyablement devient une métaphore du passage de l’enfance à l’âge adulte, de la voie que nous parcourons et plus largement de la vie qu’il faut apprendre à dompter.

ON / OFF is a dance work designed for teenagers and adults where a quartet of dancers performs on an unusual and wondrous machine: an oversized treadmill.

On this rolling and confining surface, physical movement is both restrained and ecstatic, exhilarated and acrobatic. Together and alone, the performers address themes such as identity, self fulfillment, determination, coexistence, freedom, exhaustion and the unending feelings and sensations that makeup the complexity of life. The treadmill is a meeting place where the characters seek to understand their place in the world. Sometimes at the mercy, sometimes in control of this intriguing, unpredictable and mobilizing machine, they play with time and suspend actions in space in order to dig out the details of gestures, questions and interactions. The forever forward moving device becomes a metaphor for the passage from childhood to adulthood. It is the path that we choose to travel and the life that we learn to tame.
