Ancient Indian folk painting: India’s folk art is very ancient and passed from one generation to another. Still, these old art forms are practised in various places in India. They became a part of Indian tradition and culture. During the period of Indian art, many art forms were advanced, and some vanished. However, the ancient folk art forms modified in colours and styles and still survive in society with their unique structure.
Supplies you’ll need for folk painting:
- Acrylic paints: White and Black (primary colors), Red, Blue and Yellow.
- Canvas (any size), or Drawing paper (minimum 200 gram).
- Brushes: Linear brush size 0; Round brush size 1; and flat brush size 2.
Madhubani art: The drawing of Madhubani is spiritually inspired, represented by line drawings filled with bright colours and contrasts or patterns. It consists of ritual content such as marriage or birth and festivals, and it is classified by its eye-catching geometric patterns. Take inspiration from this beautiful and thoughtful art form and create some amazing Madhubani drawings, following step-by-step guidance with your art instructor.
Warli art: An ancient tribal art form originated in India. Warli art uses a set of basic geometric shapes: a circle, a triangle, and a square. These shapes are symbolic of different elements of nature. One of the most popular themes in Warli art is a spiral chain of humans around one central motif. This in accordance with their belief that life is an eternal journey, and it has no beginning and end. Warli drawing is simple, yet stylish, making it a great art form for anyone to master.
Supplies you’ll need for Madhubani and Warli:
- A4 Size Hard Paper
- Black pen
- Pencil
- Paint and brushes
Live on Google Meet: Class will be hosted on Google Meet. Step by step instructions will be provided throughout the drawing process to help you complete your project. Participants are encouraged to turn on their webcam/video to take part in this workshop. This is to allow the artist/instructor to check on the progress of participants and offer personalized guidance & support where needed.

About the artist: Anne Mary, the owner and a Certified Zentangle Teacher at Anne Art Academy, an ISO and MSME Certificate Academy based in India. Since 2011, Anne has worked as an assistant professor in the civil engineering department, has written a book about surveying and received the "Best Women Award - Young Author". For Anne, art drawings have been her childhood passion. Through her personal fascination in various art drawings, she became a Doodle and Zentangle artist and teacher offering online courses across countries as well as offline courses in her academy in India.
