Description:

Get ready for an out-of-this-world experience as the Sunshine Coast Pride Society and the Sunshine Coast Astronomy Club team up to present "Pride Under The Stars!" This event is all about blending science, diversity, and pure queer joy into one unforgettable evening.

We are so grateful to hold this event on the unceded, ancestral, and traditional lands of the shíshálh First Nation.

About the Event:

Blast Off with "The Stars Belong to Everyone":

Prepare to journey through the vibrant tapestry of LGBTQ+ representation in the cosmos with a screening of "The Stars Belong to Everyone," a dazzling documentary by local filmmaker Charles Ennis. From history-making pioneers to contemporary queer explorers pushing the boundaries of space and identity, this film is a celebration of diversity among the stars!

Glitter, Glamour, and Drag Extravaganza:

After the documentary, it's time to sparkle and shine with a show-stopping drag spectacular hosted by the fabulous Davis Gay! Featuring sassy performances from drag sensations like Manly Nipkiss, Randy Darlin', and introducing the fierce newcomer Ryan Ginger, this drag show is sure to be out of this world.

Cosmic Stargazing Adventure:

But the party's just getting started! Step outside and gaze upon the cosmic wonders with the Sunshine Coast Astronomy Club. Let our stellar guides lead you on a journey through the twinkling galaxies and celestial delights visible through our telescopes. Bring your own camping chair or blanket for watching the Meteor Shower.

Beats by DJ E-List:

And keeping the beats thumping all night long is the one and only DJ E-List, spinning tunes that'll have you dancing among the stars!

Observatory Site Rules:

  1. Vehicle Parking: Please park your vehicle with headlights facing away from the observatory and the area where members set up telescopes. This is to preserve the night vision of observers. Two accessible parking spaces are available on either side of the observatory for those who need them. Avoid driving down past the observatory towards the runways. Please adhere to any marker cones or trestles, as they are placed for everyone’s safety.
  2. Pets: The airport authority does not permit dogs at the airport.
  3. Smoking and Aerosols: Smoking is prohibited by the airport authority, and the use of aerosols such as bug spray near the telescopes is not allowed. These substances can leave a film on the optics and lenses, which spoils observing and is difficult to clean off. If you use bug spray, please do so in the parking lot or away from the telescopes.
  4. Food and Drinks: No food or drinks are allowed inside the observatory to prevent spillage on electronics. Visitors may consume beverages or snacks outside only.
  5. Laser Pointers: Laser pointers are prohibited on airport property by Transport Canada.
  6. Lighting: All onsite lighting is red to preserve night vision. Headlamps and flashlights should be set for red light only on site to maintain night vision.

Accessibility Features at Our Venue:

  1. Paved Walkways: The observatory features paved walkways throughout the premises, ensuring smooth and accessible pathways for all visitors, including those with mobility aids.
  2. Wheelchair Accessible Port-O-Potty: For visitors with mobility needs, a wheelchair accessible port-o-potty is available on site, providing convenient restroom facilities.
  3. Vehicle Access Required: Please note that access to the venue requires the use of a vehicle. Visitors should plan accordingly and ensure they have transportation to and from the site. Consider Carpooling.
  4. This Event is quieter than most pride events, great for folks wanting a more chill pride activity.

At our venue, we strive to provide inclusive and accessible facilities to accommodate all visitors. If you have any specific accessibility requirements or questions, please feel free to reach out to our team for assistance at scpridecommittee@gmail.com
