About this event

  • 3 hours

For generations, Rappie Pie has been at the center of celebrations for many Acadian families. Shared amongst friends, and across borders, this dish has surely made its mark!

This event will begin with a talk about it's origins, it's variations that represent the regions where it is commonly found, and a description of the process of how to transform the humble potato into this dish that carries the history of its people every time it is served.

Participants will be brought back in time, to the memories of kitchens of days past and roll up their sleeves and help as a group to peel and rasp potatoes, and prepare a pan of Pâté à la Râpure as was done generations ago.

As a group we will share memories and stories, and answer any questions that surround this subject.

Once assembled, our communal râpure will be placed into a reproduction wood-fired oven. As this dish takes more than two hours to cook, we will not be able to sample our own, however we will be able to sit down and have a meal of pre-cooked râpure that was prepared prior to the afternoon. This will be served with fresh baked bread, butter and an assortment of commonly paired condiments such as molasses and bread-and-butter pickles.

Food has always brought people together. Our space and table are welcoming to people of all backgrounds and cultures. A shared interest in good food, and good stories is all that is needed!
