About this event

What does your Dream City look like? How can we promote a more inclusive and intersectional perspective in urban planning and civic governance that considers diverse identities within our cities?

Join us on Thursday, June 6th to hear from the first cohort of CityHive's Urban ReVision: BIPOC Mentorship Studio! Over the past few months, the cohort members (a.k.a. Urban ReVisioners) have been working closely with BIPOC industry mentors and our partners at the City of Surrey on projects, all about the City's Official Community Plan (OCP). This event will showcase their visions and reimaginations for Surrey to the public.

Urban ReVision: BIPOC Mentorship Studio is for BIPOC youth, ages 18-30, who are passionate about shaping the future of their city. This program aims to support BIPOC youth who are interested in exploring the fields of urban planning and civic governance through mentorship with BIPOC industry mentors, community building, and hands-on learning through conducting projects on local issues that matter to them.

With the diverse knowledge, passions, and lived experiences that this cohort of Urban ReVisioners have, they are excited to share their creative and innovative ideas on topics including food justice, climate resilience, accessible housing and transportation, disaster planning, cultural spaces, and more.

About the Organizers

CityHive is a Metro Vancouver based not-for-profit organization on a mission to transform the way that young people are involved in shaping their cities. We work to ensure young people have the agency and opportunity to participate in city planning, local decision-making, and sustainability issues. We work with city-shaping institutions and municipalities to create meaningful youth engagement practices, and simultaneously work with young people to build capacity and provide opportunities to address urban challenges.

We recognize the Semiahmoo, Katzie, Kwikwetlem, Kwantlen, Qayqayt and scəwaθenaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsawwassen) First Nations on whose land the program and projects were based on. CityHive also acknowledges the unceded, ancestral, and traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations where the program was also held. We recognize the S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō), Stz'uminus, and all Coast Salish peoples on whose land we also do our work.
