Our school program workshops with exhibiting artist Paige Jung will start with a gallery tour of our Start with Art exhibition and culminate in a hands-on art-making workshop.
This year, we are offering two different workshops during Start with Art! When you register for day and time, you will have the option to choose between Paige's 'Illustrate a Still Life Scene' workshop or her 'Paper Pottery' workshop.
Illustrate A Still Life Scene with Limited Colours
In this project linking positive and negative space, colour theory, as visual thinking strategies, students will create a still life illustration with a limited colour palette. They will experiment with a variety of materials including acrylic paint, gouache, pencil crayons and pastels.
Paper Pottery: Illustrate a Patterned Vase
In this illustration workshop inspired by Asian ceramic patterns, students will use acrylic paint, gouache, pencil crayons and pastels. They will also learn about composition, colour theory and some principals of illustration.
About the Instructor
Paige Jung (she/her) is a Chinese-Canadian illustrator, muralist and artist from so-called “Vancouver”, Canada. Paige is known for her proficient use of colour and gestural shapes to create illustrations that tell stories of connection, community power, and what makes us human. About Start with Art
Please join us for our 19th annual Start with Art exhibition. This truly unique show focuses on encouraging young people to appreciate, collect, and curate their own art collection – with a special price list just for kids 16 and younger!
Exhibiting artists also offer advice for budding artists and frequently spark the idea in kids that one day their work could be shown in a gallery, too.
