Let's sew for change to help end period poverty on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Endometriosis Events and Help a Girl Out (HAGO) will collaborate our efforts to make change by sewing reusable menstrual pads. Participants will learn about basic sewing techniques, what fabrics are best for making reusable pads, and be taught by an experienced sewist.
Guests will have the option to keep their reusable pad or donate it to HAGO. All donated pads are then distributed for free to those in need. Reusable pads not only reduce waste in landfills, but also ensure that individuals have consistent access to period products for years at a time, eliminating period poverty sustainably.
We will meet at the Help a Girl Out Hub (#6-188 Wilkinson Road, Brampton) at 11:00 a.m. ET for a 3.5hr sewing workshop. All equipment, supplies, and materials will be provided. No experience necessary.
Help a Girl Out (HAGO) is an anti-poverty organization based in Brampton Ontario, that aims to eliminate period poverty in Canada and developing countries. Their efforts so far have served individuals and centres across Canada, the Caribbean and a few African countries.
Ticket includes sewing workshop, light snacks, swag bag, and raffle for a copy of BLOOD: The Science, Medicine, and Mythology of Menstruation.
Space is limited. Register early to make a difference and avoid disappointment. Half of the proceeds from your registration will be donated to HAGO.
**Participants must be 13 years or older.
