In his engaging discussion of inspirational leadership in the face of change: guiding through innovation and inclusion, Elio will draw from his three-decade journey in guiding and advising some of Canada’s leading companies towards growth and enduring success. Andrew Gemino, associate dean of Executive Education and professor at SFU Beedie, will facilitate the conversation.

About Elio Luongo

With three decades of experience serving clients at KPMG, Elio Luongo has advised some of Canada’s largest companies, helping these businesses grow and achieve long-term success.

He has held senior leadership roles at one of the world’s most prominent professional services firms, including acting as KPMG Canada’s CEO and Senior Partner and a member of the Global Board of KPMG International.

Through his inclusive and visionary leadership, Elio has created career development opportunities for thousands of aspiring CPAs, growing KPMG in Canada from 6,000 to 10,000 employees. As a champion of diverse teams, he has led by example, appointing women to more than 50% of the roles on his executive team. Elio oversaw the appointment of the company’s inaugural chief mental health officer – the first in corporate Canada – and KPMG Canada has been recognized for numerous employer awards, including by Forbes Canada for being the Best Employer for Diversity in 2022. He is also a member of the 30% Club, which advocates for greater representation of women in board seats and C-Suites.

As a proud SFU alumnus, Elio has served on SFU’s 50th Anniversary Campaign Cabinet, as a member of SFU’s Board of Governors and as a chair of the Dean’s External Advisory Board for the Beedie School of Business.

Elio received SFU's Outstanding Alumni Award in April 2024, and he will be awarded SFU's honorary degree, the highest honour conferred by the university, in October 2024.


About Andrew Gemino

Andrew Gemino serves as SFU Beedie professor and associate dean of Executive Education at the Beedie School of Business. He has previously served as dean pro tem (2020-21), associate dean of undergraduate programs (2010-17), and associate dean of graduate programs (2017-2023) at SFU Beedie.

Andrew is an award-winning teacher who has twice received the Canada Trust Distinguished Teacher award from the Beedie School of Business, the SFU Teaching Excellence Award, the MBA Teaching Excellence Award from UBC, along with 16 years on the Beedie Teaching Honour Roll. Andrew's academic research focuses on digital transformation, project management, business solutions design and business analytics. He has held over $ 1 million in research awards, including from NSERC, SSHRC and Western Economic Development Fund. He has co-authored an award-winning textbook - Experiencing MIS.
