In this workshop at Saskatoon Makerspace, students will learn the basics of stained glass and create their own custom-designed stained glass piece. The class will cover topics such as selecting and cutting glass, copper foil technique, soldering, and finishing. Participants will learn how to select and cut glass, apply copper foil to the edges, and solder the pieces together to create their stained glass piece. Through hands-on practice and guided instruction, students will create a stained glass sun catcher or small panel to take home. The class will emphasize the importance of safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment. All materials and tools will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring their own glass cutting tools if they have them. This class is suitable for beginners with little to no experience in stained glass. By the end of the class, students will have a foundational understanding of stained glass techniques and will have created their own beautiful stained glass piece.
Participants should bring:
- Close toed shoes (work shoes are preferred)
- Wear clothes that are comfortable, and clothes that you won’t worry about getting stains or possible burns on. Jeans and long sleeve shirt would be appropriate. Ensure that your clothing does not have frayed edges (e.g. around the cuffs of your pants) If you have regular glasses that you wear please bring them as they will work for safety glasses.
Participants will be provided with:
- Soldering PPE
- Safety glasses
- Gloves
* Participants must me be 14 years of age or older, ages 14 - 16 must be accompanied by a legal guardian. *
