Don’t miss our Synapcity CityMakers Session coming this June. Join us as we welcome back our Civics Boot Camp Alumni from past and present. Hear from our graduates about how they are positively impacting their communities and learn about current projects and initiatives they are involved in. Listen to keynote speakers who were involved in prior Boot Camps. Visit several of our partner booths to learn about CityMaking activities happening across the region.


Synapcity CityMakers Session takes place Tuesday June 11th between 530 pm and 8pm. Don’t miss our Alumni Lightning Talks, with the first round starting at 6pm and be sure to chat with our partner exhibitor organizations to learn how you can become a CityMaker too.

Manjit Basi, Co-Founder of Synapcity 


Manjit facilitates and enables individuals, teams, organizations and communities to move forward together with a shared and sustainable vision. Her foundation comes from experiences in entrepreneurship, leadership and team coaching, mentoring and consulting in the business, voluntary, and government sectors – often working across organizational and sectoral boundaries. Manjit’s facility is in creating trust, fostering generative thinking, and supporting others in finding clarity and strategic coherency. She brings a systemic lens approach that builds relational intelligence.


Jesse Cressman-Dickinson, Director Communication And Community Engagement at Bruyère


Jesse thrives in complex situations with a high level of uncertainty. Known for her ability to bring people together in a non confrontational and fearless way to move ideas forward and deliver on a mission. She leads organizations that have a public service mission and are working on evidence-based solutions to make lives better.


Bettina Vollmerhausen, Co-Founder of Ottawa Tool Library 


Bettina Vollmerhausen demonstrates leadership by balancing vision with compassion, exemplifying commitment to her projects, and inspiring those around her. She cares about and focuses on connections – connecting people, organizations, resources, finances and – most importantly – values. In 2014, she help co-found the Ottawa Tool Library (OTL), a local, non-profit organization and has been the driving force behind OTL, presenting pitches for micro-grants, procuring a space to house this new project, touring other tool libraries, and launching a crowdfunding campaigns Since its launch the OTL has had over 1,700 members, housed over 2,000 donated tools, and has diverted over 2 tonnes of metal waste from landfill. 


Jeremy Colbeck - Co-Founder & Board Member of Beetbox Farm 

Jeremy Colbeck is co-founder and board member, and most importantly a farmer at BeetBox Farm.  He uses farming as a tool to pull culture towards a sustainable way of life. Jeremy has an aerospace engineering bachelors’ at Carleton U,and found organic farming in 2013. Jeremy is an experienced teacher and group leader with a talent for public speaking. He was an early graduate of the Civics Boot Camp. 


Dan Monafu, Board Member of Synapcity

Dan Monafu works at the intersection of public policy innovation, civic technology, and critical thinking platforms. He has founded or co-founded a number of initiatives that work to better the community, from the local to the national level, including: Soup Ottawa, Ottawa (de)tours, Ottawa Civic Tech – and some groups that don’t have Ottawa in their title: the Trawler, Privi, and Live Here, most recently.

Our event will take place in the lobby of the newly constructed Nicol Building, home of the SPROTT School of Business. Located on the Carleton Campus at 1125 Colonel By in Ottawa, Ontario.


Light catering will be served. Parking available at an extra fee. Public Transportation options available. The venue is fully accessible and bicycle parking is located onsite.
