In this Play Lab, teachers will explore the sense of how a material can be something particular for children and can develop a sense of wonder, spatial organization, composition, building, and creative thinking. Materials can invite children to question and build theories by exploring a range of materials that are carefully chosen with intentionality. Teachers will be invited to think further on how they can facilitate this wonderment with children and build on a child’s
curiosities and imagination. What other materials can be added to children’s play? How can teacher source, organize, and display these materials for children?
Participants will play with materials along with thought provoking questions that will be setup in the Play Lab along side material setup. As they encounter the setups throughout the Play Lab, participants will be asked to think about challenges, further thinking/questioning about the intentionality of materials, what is in their own environments and how they setup creative encounters for children.
