About this event

Description:We will walk through the Riley Park / Little Mountain neighbourhood to observe an interesting architectural phenomenon - something I call the Mansion District Effect. Due to a unique combination of the area's land-values, lot-sizes, and zoning bylaws, houses here are increasingly being redeveloped into bespoke and luxurious homes that could easily belong in a architectural magazine.

Starting at the Main & 21 Plaza, we will visit several of these new homes to take in the beautiful/provocative architecture, discuss our city's land-use policies, and potentially tour Uytae's old place.

Walk Leader: Uytae Lee is a videographer who covers urban planning issues for the YouTube channel About Here as well as the CBC. He lived in the Riley Park / Little Mountain neighbourhood for three years during the height of the pandemic.

Starting place: Main & 21st Plaza (next to Liberty Café)

How to recognize your walk leader(s): Utae will have a sign

Accessibility Info: Family-friendly, Wheelchair user-friendly, Pet-friendly

Travel Tips: It is suggested to take transit as it is close to bus stops along Main Street. Some parking available on the side streets, bike parking at Main & 21st plaza.
