« Venez marcher dans nos mocassins » est une initiative du Programme autochtone de la Faculté de Médecine de l’Université d’Ottawa encourageant les personnes inuit, métisses et des Premières Nations à faire une demande d’admission à la Faculté de médecine de l’Université d’Ottawa.

Quand : samedi 4 mai 2024, de 9 h à 16 h

Où : Pavillon Roger Guindon, 451 Chemin Smyth, Ottawa, ON K1H 8M5

Les participantes et participants se pencheront sur un aspect de la santé humaine, et apprendront comment les médecins :

• évaluent les antécédents médicaux ;

• examinent un patient ;

• pose un plâtre ;

• font des points de suture.

Une visite du laboratoire d’anatomie sera proposée. (facultatif).

Lors de ces séances, nous accueillerons un Aîné local et examinerons l’importance d’intégrer la culture et les modes de guérison autochtones à la prestation des soins de santé. Nos étudiants en médecine autochtones parleront de leur cheminement personnel en vue d’être admis à l’école de médecine. Dre Darlene Kitty, notre directrice du programme, expliquera sa réalité de médecin autochtone pratiquant dans la communauté Cri de Chisasibi.

Notes :

• Il n’y a aucun frais d’inscription pour ce mini-cours d’introduction à la médecine.

• Un dîner sera servi.

• Veuillez noter que tout participant venant de l’extérieur de la région d’Ottawa sera responsable pour ses propres frais de transport et d’hébergement.

• Les places sont limitées à 50.

About this event

“Come Walk in Our Moccasins” is an initiative of the Aboriginal Program of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa encouraging First Nations, Inuit and Métis people to apply to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.

When: Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Roger Guindon Hall, 451 Smyth Road, Ottawa, ON K1H 8M5

Focusing on one aspect of human health, Mini-Med participants will learn how doctors:

• do a medical history;

• do a physical exam;

• put on a cast;

• do stitches.

A tour of the anatomy laboratory will be offered. (Optional).

The Mini-Med school includes participation by a local Elder and explores the importance of integrating Aboriginal culture into health care. Our Aboriginal medical students will share their personal journeys to being accepted into medical school. Dr. Darlene Kitty, our Aboriginal Program Director, will talk about what it’s like to be an Indigenous physician practicing in the Cree community of Chisasibi.

Notes:

There is no registration fee to attend this one-day mini-medical school.

• Lunch will be provided.

• Please note that participants from outside the region are responsible for their own travel and accommodations.

• Spaces are limited to 50.
