Supporting Health, Inclusion, and Equity (SHiNE©)
According to the Public Health Agency of Canada (2022), 1 in every 37 children have an autism diagnosis. This doesn't tell the story of young adults diagnosed with autism in adulthood, or aging autistic adults with other disabilities. Unfortunately, the healthcare outcomes for disabled people (including autistic adults)with disabilities are far worse when compared to health outcomes for non disabled people (CDC, 2019). Our healthcare system and healthcare practices are acountable to all Canadians and one way way to ensure people with disabilites are equitably valued and cared for, is through professional and applicable health equity training.
