Public Speaking 101

Public Speaking 101 is a workshop tailored for girls and those identifying as girls aged between 10 and 14. This session aims to equip youth with enduring tips and tricks that will prove beneficial for years to come, fostering their confidence, self-expression, and leadership abilities.

Carmen Leibel, a former news anchor, has shifted her focus from broadcast journalism to entrepreneurship with her venture, Project Five, after dedicating over 15 years to the field. Now, she's passionate about empowering individuals of all ages to improve their public speaking skills, recognizing the lifelong advantages this brings. Through Project Five, Carmen has devised a straightforward strategy aimed at boosting communication confidence.

How does Project Five work? Using interactive games and activities, Carmen has developed five simple steps to help people become more confident communicators. Since officially launching this fall, Project Five has helped hundreds of people. Students from elementary to post-secondary are now feeling empowered to work on their public speaking skills and express themselves with newfound confidence.

This workshop is open to girls and those who identify as girls between the ages of 10-14, for a cost of $5. Subsidies are available for those who cannot afford the cost of the workshop.

Workshop Facilitator: Carmen Leibel

Carmen Leibel has turned from news anchor to entrepreneur. After a successful career working in broadcast journalism with CTV, Carmen is now helping people of all ages become more confident public speakers.

Carmen recently launched Project Five, a business idea that sprouted during the pandemic. As a mom, she started to notice how much youth were socializing and communicating online. But to become more confident people who can present, share ideas and opinions, eventually nail that job interview and become a successful employee or employer, public speaking is a crucial skill to have! Carmen decided she wanted to use her years of experience to help people of all ages and launched her business in 2023.
