The Black Women’s Institute for Health
The Black Women’s Institute for Health (BWIH) is a transformative organization dedicated to addressing the unique health challenges and systemic barriers faced by Black women and girls in Canada. Rooted in the principles of equity and anti-oppression, BWIH seeks to amplify the voices and experiences of Black women through data-driven advocacy, community-based research, and culturally responsive programming.
Our mission is to redefine health by addressing the social determinants that impact the well-being of Black women, including mental health, maternal health, healthcare access, employment, and education. We are committed to ensuring that Black women are not only seen but prioritized within healthcare systems, policy discussions, and community programs.
At BWIH, we believe that when Black women thrive, families, communities, and society benefit as a whole. Through initiatives like the Mothering Minds program and the groundbreaking Voices Unheard: Vital Signs Survey for Black Women, we are building pathways to systemic change while fostering spaces for healing, empowerment, and resilience.
Together with our partners, we are creating a future where health outcomes for Black women and girls reflect their strength, potential, and inherent value. Join us as we work towards a healthier, more equitable Canada.
