It was 2018: I took this selfie at the lowest point in my life {thus far.}

I remember feeling steeped in anxiety, rage and fluctuating mood changes.

I was also p*ssed right off that every #perimenopause & #menopause image on the world wide web painted a dark picture of forlorn women, crying, holding their heads in their hands, sitting on the edge of the bed while their partners towered over them. No wonder no one wanted to talk about menopause!

Don't get me wrong. There was a lot of darkness and plenty of crying. And there were also kids to feed and a job to be done.

Two things can be true at the same time.

I remember why I took this selfie--it was my attempt to say: anxiety and depression can sometimes look like a smart, savvy, confident women who has her shit together. I didn't, but I was choosing to pretend I did.

Two things can be true at the same time.

So when the light coming into my bedroom this day was nearly perfect, I put on my butterfly dress and snapped this photo--not knowing I'd be writing this post for you eight years later. Isn't it funny that it's only when we glance in the rear view mirror that we recognize our lowest {& highest} points?

Throughout May, I am sharing my #mentalhealth journey in the MenopauseCommunity.com in {great!} hope that it will support YOURS.

While the rest of the world continues to assume that I must talk about #hotflashes (#vasomotorsymptoms) day-in and day-out, I know that YOU know our collective health journeys add up to so much MORE!

And even though #sleep deprivation, #brainfog, burnout, anxiety & depression may have landed me this gig as the OG “menopause chick,” I need you to know how grateful I am.

If it wasn't for those experiences, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to learn what I have learned, or to connect with YOU! 🦋
