Transforming textile waste into community impactThe Nest Community is a registered, self-funded charity in Brisbane that operates a social enterprise, The Nest Haberdashery. Stocked by donation, sales of textile resources fund our operations and run our community programs. We make resources affordable, and handmaking skills accessible so that reuse is achievable.Social entrepreneur Roz Holt founded The Nest Community in 2014. Since then, The Nest Haberdashery has become Queensland's largest textile recirculation organisation, staffed by over 120 volunteers and a small operations and administrative team. In 2026 we won the Queensland Social Enterprise Council's Environmental Impact Award.Every purchase funds community programs like the Exchange Project, a free mentoring program teaching hand-making skills to teenage girls from local high schools. Our creative workshops combine our Learn 2 program with skill-sharing demonstrations and partnerships with local Makers and craft organisations. We aim to introduce a new generation of women to the therapeutic qualities of craft and creativity.
