Fashion Student
Hey everyone
Thanks for stopping by. I'm a tea drinking, dog & cat obsessed fashion teacher by day… by night a mummy to a cartwheeling 10 year dance, sport & YouTube loving tween. Plus a loving daughter to a beautiful mum recently diagnosed with early stages dementia.
Devastated is an understatement.
My dear mumma taught me everything I "knew" about sewing for the majority of my early life. Until I started working with exclusive brands. Because her skills were so highly sort after in the sewing world, I wanted to learn the art of pattern making & drafting garments from measurements.
Fast forward 30 years and now I’m an experience VET / college level educator of these skills to students in VET. Teaching as a profession since 2013 - 2025.
My career in this industry started officially in grade 11 (1991) in West End at a Fashion Agency. However, I grew up watching my mumma sew from home, under her industrial embroidery machine in bouncer in the mid 70s in cutesy Daisy Hill. Later on I decided to study Couture at Tafe, then landed a fantastic posting at Triumph International as a textile / fabric librarian. After this, I magically gained an enviable position as head textile designer at a knitting mill in Browns plains. Travelling the world researching ideas & trends. Drawing everyday.
This led me to a position of garment designer for manufacturer in Brisbane.
From this, I courageously decided to move overseas working for brands such as Ted Baker, ASOS.com, Top Shop, Selfridges and more in London. I learnt so much here.
After 4 years I moved back to Australia and with the desire to teach. Which I’ve been doing with in my business Fashion Student Online.
My love is creativity and daydreaming. However, this industry is a business which I completely understand. It’s changing and I’m hoping the wider community will allow for positive more sustainable options.
The workshops I have available are unique to me as I’ve been writing qualifications for the past 8 years.
I truly hope you enjoy them as much as I’ve enjoyed creating the.
