Everyday Muslim Heritage and Archive Initiative
Everyday Muslim Heritage and Archive Initiative (EMHAI) was established in 2013 to document and preserve the histories of Muslims across Britain. Created in response to the absence of Muslim narratives in British archives, museums, arts, and academia, EMHAI works to research, document, and preserve lived experiences often overlooked.
EMHAI maintains four digital archive collections across London, Oxford, and the Southeast, featuring over 200 oral history interviews alongside hundreds of personal documents, photographs, and ephemera. Beyond archiving, the initiative delivers heritage trails, educational resources, workshops, films, and podcasts, and is currently developing a digital history map of Muslim Britain in collaboration with the University of Oxford. EMHAI also leads a campaign to establish a memorial for South Asians affected by the Partition of India in 1947.
