Curious and constantly trying to figure out the creative steps in the artistic process, I study and observe, while quietly learning. I’ve worked with stone, wood and more recently, fiber. I enjoy creating pieces that pull together different techniques and applications to create something truly unique. I am drawn to many different art forms and enjoy working with a variety of materials. I test the possibilities and sometimes the boundaries. I believe that style and technique are just as important as the process. I have spent significant time learning a variety of technique using fiber – spinning, dyeing, blending, felting. The finished product is as much a reflection of the materials as it is a reflection of the skill and techniques used to create a yarn that many in the textile community consider art. Because art yarns have limited applications due to their fragile structure, I incorporate the yarn into weavings. This way, I can maintain the beauty of the yarn while ensuring the integrity. I stretch the imagination by going several steps beyond a traditional loom, having discovered shoes and sticks along my journey.
