Founded in 2022, the Aligned Learning Society is a parent-led learning community operating in the mid-Island area, both in a school-like setting and at various locations outdoors. Families and caregivers collaborate with their district teachers and mentors to guide their children's education through an experiential learning approach. The BC curriculum is delivered through an artistic lens and woven together with practical life skills, outdoor education, and performing arts such as dance, theater, music, and visual arts. Value is placed on connection to the natural world, academics, critical thinking, and creativity. The society incorporates The village model, recognizing the family as the primary decision maker in their children's education. Currently there are around 30 families in the Nanaimo area who participate.
