Karuna Compost
Karuna Compost is exploring the various ways in which backyard composting and the study of microbes can lead to better health, stronger communities, and a greater appreciation of living systems.
Our work happens at the intersection of art, social practice, and environmental care. We believe that community composting programs are fundamental to addressing climate change, and also to the development of healthy, resilient food systems and nutritional security.
Since the beginning of 2025, we've organized and produced ~100 free meetups throughout the city of Calgary, including a comprehensive program at Highfield Regenerative Farm, The Alex Community Food Centre, and other community-minded organizations.
Our meetups provide a friendly and inclusive space where people of diverse backgrounds can learn about composting together, get their hands dirty, and share stories with each other.
