Latin American Media Arts Symposium 2026
The 2026 edition of LAMAS emerges at the intersections of affect, memory, futurity, and decoloniality within media arts practices shaped by Latin American diasporas across Canada. Held as part of aluCine’s 26th anniversary, this year’s symposium is shaped by translocal collaborations, care-based methodologies, and speculative approaches as frameworks for generating alternative cultural imaginaries, reasserting histories excluded from dominant narratives, and creating conditions for decolonial transformation within Canada’s arts ecology.
A project created by Southern Currents; a Toronto-based non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating Latin American media arts. Southern Currents champions underrepresented voices and fosters public appreciation for Latinx Canadian arts through film screenings, panels, symposia, workshops, live performances, and art exhibitions.
