Bhavajan Kumar
Bhavajan Kumar is a sensitive Bharatanatyam artiste with a captivating stage presence, precision in movement and a deep devotion to the art form, he is a natural artiste with an innate understanding of the art he practices.
Bhavajan Kumar is a disciple of Guru Leela Samson. He not only absorbs and imbibes the subtle nuances of his gurus' distinctive style, but is also keen on presenting the art with sincerity, keeping intact its spiritual essence. Bhavajan also trained in nattuvangam and vocal carnatic music from Bhagavathula Seetharama Sharma and works closely with Smt Jyotsna Narayanan on the subtler aspects of the form.
He is a recipient of the Yuva Kala Bharathi title from Bharat Kalachar, Vazhuvoor Ramiah Pillai Endowment from the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana. Other awards include the Pandit Durga Lal Endowment & Kelucharan Mohapatra Endowment from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha & the Vasantha Lakshmi Narasimhachari Endowment from Narada Gana Sabha. He was awarded the best dancer title from the Madras Music Academy for his margazhi concert for years 2023 & 2024 consecutively.
While these recognitions and laurels have been testimonies to his commitment to the art form, his true sense of achievement lies in his learning experiences with some of the doyens of Bharatanatyam.
As part of the Spanda Dance Company directed by Leela Samson, Bhavajan has performed extensively with the company worldwide as a lead dancer.
Bhavajan has had the privilege of performing at premier dance festivals across the globe, touring as a soloist & ensemble member in India, Canada, Australia, the U.S.A and Europe. He has also had the opportunity of performing in esteemed venues in India such as the Music Academy Madras, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Narada Gana Sabha, The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural center among the many others. Bhavajan has had the honour of performing in the august presence of great dignitaries such as The Horonable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Late Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam and Prathibha Patel, Former Presidents of India, Sri Sathya Sai Baba & Sri Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev.
