Born in Seville, Spain, Maria Serrano is an internationally acclaimed flamenco dancer known for her raw power, emotional depth, and deep roots in traditional flamenco. Trained from early childhood by some of Seville’s most respected masters including José Galván, Farruco, Juan Manuel, and Los Gitanillos de Bronce, her talent was recognized early on.
Maria has toured extensively across Europe, North America, and Asia with leading flamenco companies and artists such as Meme Menjíbar, Javier Barón, Carmen and Carmelilla Montoya, and Antonio “El Pipa.” In 1993, she was selected by André Heller for the production Magneten, touring Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, where Austrian media named her the “Voodoo Queen” of flamenco.
In 2000, she founded Compañía Maria Serrano, creating and directing original productions that blend tradition with bold contemporary vision. Her works include Ritmo Flamenco-Cubano, Entre Flamencos, FlamenTango, Flamenco por Derecho, Intuición, Flamenco Recital, Balkan Flamenco, and Memorias, presented at major international festivals and theaters across Europe and North America.
Maria is also a dedicated educator. In 2014, she expanded her teaching to Canada with the opening of the Flamenco Dance Academy Maria Serrano in Toronto. In 2025, she co-founded a new flamenco academy in Mairena del Alcor, Spain, alongside her sister, flamenco artist Alba Serrano.
Her company has toured in more than 25 countries, including Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Canada, Hungary, Japan, Mexico, Greece, Turkey, Taiwan, and Italy.
