Mindfulness for Health

Mindfulness for Health runs evidence-based 8-week Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) programs at least 3 times per year.  Our Winter 2017 program started on January 14th, 2017 and the next one will begin on March 25, 2017.  There will also be one running on Friday mornings at the CMHA in Brampton beginning in March.  If you have coverage for Occupational Therapy or Social Work, you can be reimbursed for the cost of the program under extended healthcare benefits. We also offer monthly Mindfulness classes for graduates in Milton.

We receive referrals through doctors, psychologists, social workers, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and self-referrals. There is a huge and growing body of literature that proves that Mindfulness Training can reduce stress levels, reduce anxiety, increase positive emotions, train and improve concentration/attention, enhance productivity, improve immune system functioning, improve sleep and improve one’s capacity to skillfully work with unpleasant/negative feelings.

Mindfulness training has been infiltrating the healthcare system (staff and patients), school system (teachers and students), the world of sports as well as large corporations. Under the care of a licensed health care professionals, Angie Kingma OT Reg. (Ont.) and co-facilitator Gaye Gould MSW RSW, our groups, which are based upon Jon Kabat-Zinn’s 8-week MBSR program, will help put you in touch with your mind and body in new ways. These scientifically proven techniques can help you restore a sense of balance, improve your sense of well-being and enrich your enjoyment of life.
