Sword Dance Sorcery with Shauna Jayne
Sword Dance Sorcery is a Calgary-based performance and embodiment practice blending ritual movement, sword work, and spiritual counselling/energy work sessions. I host in-person and online workshops designed to build skill, presence, and embodied confidence for dancers, performers, and curious beginners.**
Shauna Jayne Bellerose (she/her) is a Métis dancer, visual and performance artist, and educator who is proud to call the unceded territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’inaa, the Stoney Nakoda Nations, and the Métis Nation (Region 3) home. Shauna specializes in theatrical circus bellydance and prop work, with a focus on sword (and fire). She has studied modern bellydance since 2009, training primarily in the U.S. with pioneers including Jamila & Suhaila Salimpour, Silvia Salamanca, Amy Sigil, and sword dance pioneer Belladonna Boheme.**
She has performed with Green Fools for over a decade and has been a cast member of Cirque de la Nuit since 2018, appearing at festivals in Canada and abroad including Shambhala, Wicked Woods, Fozzy Fest, and Raven’s Night, plus local stages such as Calgary Pride and Beakerhead. Shauna is also a certified instructor in Bohemian Bellydance and SIGIL technique, and a licensed hairstylist and makeup artist.**
