Indigenous ways of knowing and Place-Based Learning in the STEM Classroom (RESCHEDULED)

Dr. Jean-Paul Restoule (Dokis First Nation) is an Anishinaabe scholar and educator who is currently the Chair of Indigenous Education at the University of Victoria. He is concerned with bringing Indigenous worldviews to a wide audience and infusing Indigenous perspectives into mainstream practice. Jean-Paul is currently leading a study on how to centre Indigenous pedagogy and ways of knowing and being in online learning environments.Jean-Paul is also investigating what motivates educators to incorporate Indigenous perspectives in their teaching practice and how teacher candidates and new teachers can best develop the knowledge, confidence and motivation to meaningfully include Indigenous knowledges and pedagogies in their classrooms.Dr. Angela Nardozi is a guest on Turtle Island who is Italian-Canadian. She has spent a decade working alongside Indigenous communities and with non-Indigenous educators including as the Project Manager of the Deepening Knowledge Project from 2011 to 2016. She is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers and received her Ph.D. in Education from OISE/UT. She is now a consultant, coach, and a sessional lecturer at OISE in the Masters of Teaching Program. <H2>Presenter Bio:</H2>
Dhakāle or Hayle Gallup, is a member of the Tahltan First Nation. Currently, she is an Indigenous Support Teacher within School District 61, an advocate for putting reconciliation into action, a language revitalization activist, planning a land-based educational/adventure program for Tahltan youth, and creating educational film content that sparks dialogue on Indigenous education and reconciliation. She obtained her Bachelor's in Elementary Education at the University of Victoria (UVic) and will soon be entering into UVic's Diploma of Language Revitalization hosted in her own community. She is a life-long learner, doesn't believe in experts, and is excited to learn from and with you through thoughtful dialogue and storytelling.
